This website is a tribute to a great Chicago landmark: The Allerton Hotel. The hotel's swanky Tip Top Tap cocktail lounge is now gone; but the famous sign still adorns this beautiful building in the heart of Chicago on the Miracle Mile. The hotel was recently renovated and is now one of the best places to stay in Chicago.

If you have old photographs, stories, vintage items related to Allerton and it's famous lounge please contact us. We would like to share with the world anything you have.

Allerton Hotel

A rare example of Northern Italian Renaissance Revival architecture applied to a high-rise structure and the city's first building to use a pronounced setback and towers, as encourages by the new municipal zoning laws. It was built by the Allerton House Company, a national chain of "club hotels" and was the home for many years of the Tip-Top-Tap cocktail lounge, where Don McNeil hosted his popular "Breakfast Club" radio show.
